Summer Series Racing, May 25

The 2019 Summer Series Club Racing series continues on May 25… come join us for an afternoon of racing! The Captain’s meeting is at 2pm.

At 11AM, we will be holding a seminar covering the rules (keeping things as simple as possible) of racing, as well some lesson plans and (maybe) drills on starting a race and negotiating the course and other boats on the course. We hope to cover all of these items and more to get you on the race course. The best way to become a better sailor is to sharpen your skills with racing!

The goal is to enable all the racers the ability to participate on each race day, so we need to have a committee of volunteers to run the Race Committee for each of our club races. A Race Committee should have a leader (Primary Race Officer) as well as four additional volunteers (barge + safety boat) for each race day to allow us to have an easy (for the Race Committee) and fun (for all) day.

If you think that being the Primary Race Officer for the season sounds like something you would like to tackle, please let me know. It isn’t hard, and we’re not requiring official certification of any sort. We just need someone who wants to take charge and organize that day’s racing course and start/finish line duties.

Please contact me regarding your availability for Race Committee on the 25th of May. Alternatively you can sign up on the WSC web site.

ps. As it is every club race, it is our tradition to bring an appetizer to share and whatever beverage you wish. Join us for the fun and a few lies from sailors as to how well they sailed that day! Additionally, this is a great opportunity to invite potential members to visit.

2019 North Carolina Governor’s Cup Regatta

The 2019 North Carolina Governor’s Cup Regatta will be held at Kerr Lake on June 15th and 16th with a clinic on Friday the 14th. The Notice of Race and registration is available at http://www.regattanetwork.com/event/17492.

Boats will sail as a class if there are five or more boats and the classes with the most boats will be competing for the Governor’s Cup – an overall award given to the sailor that beats the most boats in his / her class.
The group camping area has been reserved for those wishing to enjoy the fantastic venue that Henderson Point State Park is. Camping is free at the group site. In addition, Henderson Point has many well maintained individual camp sites available for a friendly fee.
While you are registering you can order a 2019 Governor’s Cup cap, short sleeve technical or long sleeve technical shirt.
If you have any questions, please contact Jerry Thompson, Regatta Chair via email at trimsails@gmail.com.

Keel Series Racing: May 11

The 2019 Keel Series Club Racing series begins on Saturday, May 11… come join us for an afternoon of racing!

This is a special ‘keelboat’ only race, and ONLY monohulls of at least 19′ in length, using either a fixed keel, swing keel, centerboard, or daggerboard are welcome to take part in the races.

This promises to be a fun event, and there will surely be some excitement at the start line… show those catamaran folks how it’s done.

First race starts at 3PM (Captain’s meeting at 2PM), and we hope to see you there. We will have our customary pot-luck after the races, so come and join us on Saturday, 11-May.

In the goal of enabling all the racers to participate in each race day, we are hoping to have a committee of volunteers to run the Race Committee for each of our club races, and we hope to have at least four additional volunteers (barge + safety boat) for each race day.

Please sign up online (on the website, under the Racing > Volunteer for RC) regarding your availability to help. Of course, if you’re having trouble logging in, I’ll be happy to help with that as well.

We look forward to seeing you Saturday, May 11!
