Calling All Hobie Island Sailors! (and other small boat sailors too) Race – Sail – Fish on Beautiful Lake Waccamaw, May 31 thru June 2, 2024. sponsored by the Waccamaw Sailing Club. The Hobie Island community is a group that has very few, if any, events. We hope to make this a premier Hobie Island sailing event on the East Coast
Lake Waccamaw is a beautiful, natural oval shaped freshwater lake, 3mi X 5mi rimmed by ancient cypress trees and drippy Spanish moss. Because there is no gas dock on the lake, there is very little power boat traffic, making it ideal for small boat sailing. The lake is conveniently located midway between Wilmington, NC and Lumberton, NC just off I 74 and about 25 mi. east of the I 95-I 74- Lumberton Exit on I 74.
Waccamaw Sailing Club has served the sailing community in this area for over 50 years. The club has a rustic clubhouse, bathrooms and hot showers, 2 boat launch ramps and beach launching. Accommodations are locally available. There are airbnbs at the lake, hotels in nearby Whiteville and camping in the State Park across the lake. Email me for more details.
This event will be so much fun! In addition to sailing & racing we will have a welcome party Friday night, food, music and cool stuff to buy. In addition, the town of Lake Waccamaw has a supermarket, restaurants and just about anything you need.
